CONCEPT SUMMER POSTER

This very beautiful yet abstract piece follows an Apple tree at the centrepiece with its roots intertwining in and out of rock slabs in the form of an electric guitar and vines making up the guitar strings. Energetic live performance plays in the background with a large crowd cheering and enjoying the show. In the foreground, dinosaur skeletons form a band, planted deep into the soil.

The crowd models were all 3D scans which had to be posed into position to simulate a live festival performance. Despite having the roots form the base of the guitar, it was quite difficult to distinguish even with the light placed inside. It was also a challenge to position the roots in a natural way. However, the Apple tree was heading in the right direction, along with the positioning of the stage.

SECOND PHASE (2D SCAMP)

I used rock slabs which were integrated into the soil. This was to outline the guitar against the dark soil and made the base clear and easier to recognise.

In addition, the ground line and crowd needed to be less of a uniform path to allow more depth and gives it a more organic frame.

SECOND PHASE (CGI)

I extended the roots to form an almost abstract pattern for a controlled but natural look. I was hoping to capture the audience's eye to the guitar by following this approach.

The most difficult challenge for me was getting the roots to not only look realistic but also act and behave like real roots would in the ground. After receiving the change in concept design with the roots shooting out in an abstract pattern, it gave more flexibility in achieving the look that we were aiming for.

FINAL

Overall, I am very pleased with how the final design came out as I feel that we were able to capture the life and energy from the performance on the stage, combined with the crowd in the background and achieve a creative twist by having the tree and roots form a guitar. The lighting and colours work beautifully and give off a natural and summer vibe.
